WORK HISTORY:
CEO, Founder, Director
Soft Skull Press, Inc.
January, 1996-September 2001I started Soft Skull in the back of a copy shop, but in nine years turned it into an internationally-known, highly-respected, award-winning publisher. I edited and published over 75 paperback and hardcover books to critical acclaim, with an authors list that ranged from REM lead singer Michael Stipe to promising new novelists. I acquired Fortunate Son, our controversial biography of George W. Bush, and the award-winning No More Prisons by William Upski Wimsatt. I developed new business ventures, including the creation of the e-commerce engine that grossed $68,000 in 2001. I raised $115,000 cash for the company through private placements of company stock. I negotiated and signed several major national and international distribution contracts which ignited explosive revenue growth. I appeared on 60 Minutes and in major print media regarding Fortunate Son, and acquired the lists two bestsellers: Nowhere Man: The Final Days of John Lennon and Dance of Days: Two Decades of Punk in the Nations Capital.
Kinkos of Manhattan
August, 1991 - July, 1997Under the mentorship of Managing Partner Stuart Bagwell, I learned all aspects of this aggressive, high-growth retail reprographic business. With Bagwells leadership, we went from one store to seven during my time there.
